Did you join anti-Vietnam war demonstrations in the U.S.?
ReplyDeleteI was not in the US during the Vietnam War. At the time I was in South Vietnam. To my recollection, there were not anti-war demonstrations in South VN as these would be deemed communist sentiment and against the South Vietnamese government’s policy. Violators would end up in prison for political bias.
Do you think the Vietnam War could be avoided?
Before the huge number of US combat troops was dispatched to VN, infighting between the two Vietnamese from opposite ideologies was already escalated to the boiling point where if in the absence of US combat forces South VN would have collapsed after president Ngo Dinh Diem’s assassination in 1963. The war would have ended right then. The US military involvement, thus the VN war starting 1964 until 1975, could not be avoided because world politics dictated that the American politicians must show determination to pursue the containment of communist expansion policy as they believed in the “domino” theory that once South VN was dominated by the communist, the whole South East Asia would also fall like the falling dominos.
Did the war have any impact on you?
Like many other Vietnamese refugees, the VN war brought me to the US, a land of opportunity and freedom. I have since had a much better life in the US than in VN.
Can world peace be achieved? Why & why not?
Forever world peace never exists as human being is a selfish entity by nature.

每個朝代的民族, 都有其不同程度的劫數。而戰爭更是促使這個劫數快速執行。有人過不去這個關卡, 卻也有人藉此而獲得重生。要問回首逝去四十年的歲月感觸, 但嘆一聲「南柯一夢」。一覺醒來，就是一天，一覺不醒，就是一世。是非成敗轉頭空, 青山依舊在, 幾度夕陽紅！

ReplyDelete何止是越戰，韓戰，回顧近期歷史，發生的戰爭，有敘利亞內戰，海灣戰爭，科索沃戰爭，阿富汗戰爭，伊拉克戰爭，數之不盡。世界可以和平嗎﹖這不是在說夢話嗎﹖戰爭的源頭，歸根結底是大政治家或各宗教派系，彼此之間，爭權奪利的游戲。亦因為當地政權腐敗，貪掠外來的物資，承受不住大國龐大的勢力與游說吸引，把自身家園塑造成大家角力的鬥獸場。“本是同根生，相煎何太急.........”
